ABOUT ME
A Vancouver-based freelance journalist who's built a successful career combining two decades in newspaper and magazine writing with a passion for visual storytelling.

I've been making photographs since an early age, but formally studied photojournalism in the late 1990s at the Western Academy of Photography in Victoria, B.C. Through the school’s sister program in writing and journalism I fostered an appreciation for the written word and soon began writing freelance for some of Canada’s top news publications, often providing my own photography. I later served as both reporter and editor for several newspapers in the Black Press Media and Glacier Media chains, earning awards provincially and nationally for photography, features writing and newspaper excellence.

In the midst of this I branched into videography for about five years, first as a news cameraman and video editor in the US and Canada, then as an EPK field producer, creating behind-the-scenes 'making of' documentaries for feature films.
But in 2021 I returned full-time to stills photography. As an independent photojournalist, I’m available for general news assignments and longer documentary projects. I am happy to provide written coverage on assignments, so long as the story remains visually driven.

I'm a dual citizen of the United States and Canada, and will travel regionally or internationally on short notice.
Commercially, I’m available for events coverage with clients looking for a candid, photojournalistic style.
I’m deeply connected to the photojournalism community as a member of the News Photographers Association of Canada. My uncommissioned editorial photography is available internationally for accredited news outlets through Zuma Press Wire.
