Writing and Editing

A full range of writing and editing services are available. This can include quick copy edits and proof reading to fully researched original documents and manuscripts. As a former newspaper reporter, Quinn is especially adept at writing effective press releases -- he knows that newsrooms need to see more than a sales pitch. They need informative leads that are journalistic in nature. A good press release hits its key notes then arouses curiosity.

Quinn is curious by nature and sees his writing as a way to explore. When a new topic crosses his desk he will submerse himself into research until every curiosity is satisfied. This applies to both editorial pieces and any corporate literature for which he is commissioned.

Topics Quinn has covered recently include: mining, forestry, First Nations treaty process, film and the film industry (this includes screenplay analysis and editing), Ethiopian history, the South Pacific (both history and current affairs)

Writing credits include: The Globe And Mail, National Post, Toronto Star, North Shore News, Vancouver Courier, Georgia Straight Audubon Magazine, Report On Business Magazine, Wildlife Magazine, Cats Magazine, movieset.com, and a range of Black Press newspapers including: The Interior News, Terrace Standard, Lakes District News, Houston Today.

Photography

Quinn is a trained photojournalist with professional experience in both print and television, in addition to a few stints as a studio portrait photographer. When combined with his days as an amateur, he has approximately 25 years of experience in the field. Today he shoots almost exclusively as a photojournalist. When covering events, such as weddings or corporate functions, he will hit his bases with the requisite posed photos, but will strive also to capture the telling, candid moments.

Some of the situations Quinn has covered recently include: spot news (crime, accidents and fatalities), VIP funerals, weddings, architecture and ruins, celebrities (on and off set), red carpets, outdoor/nature/animals, sports.

Photo credits include: National Post, Vancouver Courier, North Shore News, Photo Digest Magazine, City Life Magazine, Wild Life Magazine, Pacific Yachting Magazine, Wings of Gold Magazine, Cats Magazine, movieset.com

Videography and Non-Linear Editing

Unobtrusive, single-camera documentary style videography. Quinn uses a single lighting kit for interviews and special shooting circumstances, and gathers his audio from camera-mounted shotgun mic and lapel mics.

In broadcasting, Quinn was trained on the job at KTVN in Reno, Nevada. Although at the time he had no substantial experience as a videographer, the station's photo chief hired him on the basis of his stills photography portfolio. He has since worked professionally in television news (as both a cameraman and editor) for a combined total of approximately five years.

For the past two years he employed his video skills with movieset.com, covering international film festivals and producing daily mini-documentaries of films in production. Several producers used his material for special features on their DVD release.

While still working editorially on a freelance basis, Quinn now also produces promotional pieces of small businesses and special projects -- he is particularly at home working with artists. He approaches these assignments as a visual journalist. The polished result mirrors the kind of short feature one would see broadcast on television news, and can thus be used as an EPK (electronic press kit).

Video credits include: KTVN (CBS Reno), CBS National News, CNN, CTV (BC), Shaw TV News 4, Danish Broadcasting Corporation, movieset.com, and film credits: Death Warrior (EPK), Coming and Going (EPK), The Stranger (EPK) Daydream Nation (EPK), Ich Bin Ein Mascot (short film cinematographer)
